We all know that the holidays can be quite disruptive to our normal, every day routines. Christmas comes and goes, followed by that odd period of time before New Year’s Eve where you don’t even remember what day it is. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been there.
Normally, I have a very comprehensive skin care routine based off of what my skin care concerns or needs are on that particular day. I implemented this self-care regimen into my life in early November, and I find that it significantly has improved my mental health and self-confidence. I love the act of multiple steps and trying new products and combinations to see what products compliment each other.
Over the last week or so, I’ve been caught up in the shuffle of working 50 hours a week, preparing and celebrating the holidays. Needless to say, my skin care regimen got lost in that shuffle as well.
I didn’t notice any significant breakouts or area of concern by not performing my usual regimen, but I did feel like my skin looked dull, and some areas were dry and flaky. I decided tonight is the night I am going to do a good detox, a skin care rehab, if you will.
I started by taking a nice hot bath, one of my favorite ways to relax and decompress. Steam is one of the best ways to open up your pores, so I relaxed a little and then got down to business.
I first used a clean, warm washcloth, to wipe any excess dirt and oil from my skin. I then went in with my Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush (on the highest setting) with Soap and Glory’s Face Soap & Clarity Vitamin C Facial Wash and gave my skin a good scrub all over, focusing on getting all areas of my face, neck, and behind the ears. I rinsed off the suds, first with warm water, and then wiped my face with a cloth to get any excess soap off. Lastly, I patted my face with a clean towel to dry.
The second choice I made was to go in with a toner to really make sure that any impurities were removed from my face. I used the GlamGlow SuperToner on a cotton round and went over my whole face, including behind the ears.
Next, I decided to do a bit of a detox triple combo mask using samples I had of GlamGlow’s PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment as well as the GlamGlow FlashMud Brightening Treatment. I also mixed in some of Formula 10.0.6’s BE BERRY BRIGHT EXFOLIATING MUD MASK. I mixed the three products together and applied generously all over my face with a flat foundation brush. I let it sit on my skin until it was dry and then wiped off with warm water and a hot washcloth, then patted my face dry with a clean towel.
I then decided to go in with the Mario Badescu Whitening Mask which, per the Mario Badescu website, is “packed with antioxidant-rich ingredients. Addresses discoloration and dehydration. Reveals brighter, smoother, more radiant skin.” I love this product so much! I only use it on special occasions as it is highly coveted in my skincare collection. It has such a clean, beautiful smell, that isn’t over powering, and doesn’t dry out your skin. I let this sit on my skin until dry and then wiped off with a warm washcloth and of course patted my face dry with a clean towel.
So you are probably starting to wonder if my face started to feel like it had been cast in cement. The answer is, yes. With good judgment, I picked the only product I trust for a good healing process-First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask. The only way I can describe this product to you is it’s like putting conditioner on your face. The Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask saved my skin, recently, after a little concoction went horribly wrong. I had fallen asleep in a- not so great for you, watermelon face mask and the next day once I realized what had happened-it was far too late. My skin looked as though I had a wicked sunburn and to top it all off I started to break out as well. Luckily, for me, T.J.Maxx was carrying some First Aid Beauty products and I loaded up on the Oatmeal Mask. I went through TWO AND A HALF BOTTLES, repairing the damage I had caused to my poor face. This stuff is an absolute game changer not only for that little blunder but for the dry winters here in the Midwest. I highly recommend trying this product if you are suffering from dry, damaged skin. A great tip is to keep this product in a cool place such as a fridge to give and cooling, and relieving, effect to painful skin irritation.
After I washed off the Oatmeal Mask, I applied a generous amount of Asterwood Hyaluronic Acid serum. This brand, by far, is my favorite! I found it on Amazon, and I am so impressed by how concentrated it is. A lot of hyaluronic acid serums seem to be very watery, however the consistency of the Asterwood brand is amazing-they hit the right mark between too thin and too watery, and I highly suggest trying this product out if you are in the market for it.
Lastly, I went in with my holy trifecta of “luxury” skin care. I started out with Marc Jacobs YOUTHQUAKE, Erno Laszlo Firm and Lift Firmarine Lifting Serum, and finished it off with Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask. When used together, these products make my skin glow with radiance. Being a person who has used many “cheap” skin care products-you can instantly see the difference when buying high-end products. If I had never run across these during the holiday season at discount stores like T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, I would have never even considered trying them. My big dilemma currently is, what am I going to do now that they are all sold out?! Ugh!!!
In my final step of my Skin Care Rehab, I finished off my Garnier Skin Active Clearly Brighter Anti-Puff Eye Roller and fished it off with the Goodal Green Tangerine Under Eye Vitamin C Gel Patches on my under eyes.
Yes, it was a fascinating journey tonight, trying to get my skin care regimen back on track, however, it definitely feels good to get back to a place of self-care.
